The United Way Emerging Leaders Program is designed for professionals who want to grow their leadership skills, expand their network, and make a meaningful difference in southern Cameron County.

Participants work alongside United Way staff, community leaders, and workplace campaign volunteers to help strengthen our annual Workplace Campaign while gaining valuable real-world experience in public speaking, relationship building, community engagement, and leadership development.

Whether you're looking to grow professionally, connect with other emerging professionals, or give back to your community, Emerging Leaders provides an opportunity to do all three.

What You'll Gain

Professional Development: Participate in workshops focused on leadership, communication, networking, and personal growth.

Public Speaking Experience: Build confidence by presenting to workplace groups and sharing the impact of United Way throughout our community.

Networking Opportunities: Connect with local business leaders, community partners, nonprofit professionals, and fellow Emerging Leaders.

Leadership Skills: Learn how to manage projects, build relationships, solve problems, and lead with purpose.

Community Impact: Help raise awareness and support for programs that improve lives across southern Cameron County.

What You'll Do

As an Emerging Leader, you will:

  • Support United Way Workplace Campaigns throughout the community
  • Assist with campaign presentations and employee engagement
  • Build relationships with local businesses and community partners
  • Participate in leadership workshops and campaign meetings
  • Help promote the mission and impact of United Way
  • Work closely with United Way staff and campaign volunteers

The program runs approximately August through January, with training beginning in July.

Who Should Apply?

We're looking for individuals who:

  • Are passionate about making a difference in their community
  • Want to grow as leaders
  • Enjoy meeting new people and building relationships
  • Are willing to learn and take initiative
  • Have strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Can commit to actively participating throughout the program

No previous United Way experience is required. We welcome professionals from all industries and backgrounds.

Important Dates

Application Deadline: July 3, 2026

Mandatory Orientation & Training: July 15, 2026

Program Duration: August 2026 – January 2027

Monthly workshops and campaign meetings will be held throughout the program.
